Michelle Williams to star in new N.A. arena tour of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’

Grammy-winning vocalist Michelle Williams is returning to theatrical stage as Mary Magdalene in the new arena tour of the Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice production of Jesus Christ Superstar.  The 33-year-old-singer announced the big news Friday morning on GMA.

Williams joins an all-star cast featuring Brandon Boyd as Judas Iscariot, JC Chasez as Pontius Pilate, John Lydon as King Herod and Ben Forster as Jesus Christ.

The production will kick off the 50-city North American tour beginning June 9 in New Orleans and is being directed by Laurence Conner, who co-directed the revival of Les Miserables.

A ground-breaking rock retelling of the Gospels’ account of the last week in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, Jesus Christ Superstar has been revived multiple times on Broadway since its 1971 premiere, most recently in 2012.
