The 2014 Tony Award nominations were announced early on Monday, April 29 and a big congratulation goes to Atlanta-based director Kenny Leon and his revival of A Raisin in the Sun. The show is up for five nods including Best Revival of a Play and Best Direction of a Play for Leon.

Three of the show’s actresses were also nominated including LaTanya Richardson Jackson for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play and Anika Noni Rose & Sophie Okonedo for Best Performance by an actress in a Featured Role in a Play.  Ironically, Jackson is going toe-to-toe against Audra McDonald, who starred and won a Tony for Leon’s 2004 revival of Raisin.  She is now up for her role as Billie Holliday in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill.

Other shows to receive nods include After Midnight, which scored seven including Best Musical and Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for Adriane Lenox.
