American Horror Story actress Gabourey Sidibe has been cast in Lee Daniels’ Century Fox Television series, Empire. The Oscar nominee has booked a reoccurring role as Becky, the hard working assistant to Terrence Howard’s lead character Lucious Lyons.
As previously reported, Empire follows a family-run-hip-hop dynasty governed by Lyons, who is also attempting to take his record company, Empire Entertainment public. The one-hour drama also stars Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson as Lyons’ ex-wife Cookie Lyons, Malik Yoba as Lyons’ old friend and business associate Vernon Turner and Jussie Smollett as Lyons’ son.
90210’s Trai Byers will also star as Lyon’s eldest son and Broadway actress Grace Gealey, will star as Anika Gibbons, the head of A&R for Empire and Lucious current lady friend who may be angling for a power position in the new Empire hierarchy. Super music producer Timbaland is also on board as a songwriter and music producer for the series which will feature original and current music.
RC will keep you posted as this project continues to develop.
