Indie Wire is reporting that versatile actor Isaiah Washington will reprise his role as surgeon Dr. Preston Burke on a May episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Reportedly, he will make a guest appearance as the show says goodbye to character Cristina Yang, played by Sandra Oh.
Oh and Washington’s characters were previously engaged on the award-winning series before he was fired after a controversial fight between him and co-stars T.R. Knight and Patrick Dempsey.
However, according to show’s creator Shonda Rhimes, having Washington’s presence on this season will bring some finality to Oh’s character and her journey.
“It’s important to me that Cristina’s journey unfolds exactly as it should. Burke is vital to that journey — he gives her story that full-circle moment we need to properly say goodbye to our beloved Cristina Yang.”
