When it rains, it pours!
Hip-hop star Nicki Minaj is being sued by her former hairstylist and wig designer, Terrence Davidson, for $30 million dollars over alleged intellectual property infringement.
According to the AJC, Davison filed the civil complaint on Friday morning and claims that he and Minaj were supposed to go into the wig making business together. However, Davidson is stating that Minaj started the business without his consent or knowledge and has turned the idea into a multi-million dollar business using his designs.
“I actually hand-made these wigs,” Davidson said. “For me to see them in stores and not getting credit for them is upsetting.” Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a written agreement between himself and Minaj, whose real name is Onika Maraj.
Davidson stated that he cried when he found out what actually happened. “She would always say, ‘I got you,’ ” he said. “So I thought I was going to be taken care of. I trusted her. I felt like what we were about to do we were going to do together.”
These last two weeks haven’t been the best for the Grammy-nominated rapper. She recently came under fire for using an unauthorized photo of Malcolm X as part of the cover art for her latest single,“Looking Ass N*ggas.” She has sense removed the image from her website and apologized to X’s estate claiming that she didn’t mean to disrespect his legacy.
Now she is faced with what appears to be a case of stealing intellectual property from Davidson.
What is your take on this situation? Do you think Terrence Davidson should be compensated?
