Congratulations go to the cast and crew of Universal Pictures new comedy, Ride Along.

According to THR, the film took in a whopping $48.1 million over the four-day weekend, making it the best opening of all time for the MLK Holiday. The film, which stars Kevin Hart, Ice Cube and Tika Sumpter, beat out Cloverfield, which brought in $46.1 million in 2008. It is also being reported that Ride Along had one of the best debuts ever for an African-American comedy.

Here are some of the numbers: African American made up 50% of ticket buyers while Hispanics made up 30%. Caucasians were at 12% and the average age audience member was 25, with 57% of it being female.

As previously reported, Ride Along features Hart as a fast-talking security guard who joins his girlfriend’s brother—a hot-tempered cop played by Cube—to patrol the streets of Atlanta, and gets him entangled in the officer’s latest case.  Now, in order to prove that he deserves his future bride, he must survive the most insane 24 hours of his life.
