The 91st Annual National Christmas Tree Lighting at the White House was held on Friday night in Washington D.C and on hand to celebrate were Mariah Carey, Janelle Monae and the “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin.

According to Rap-Up.com, the musical divas helped President Barack Obama and family ring in the holiday season by singing a variety of holiday classics. Janelle Monae, who looked like a toy soldier, rocked the stage with her version of “The Christmas Song.” Mariah Carey, dressed in all-white, performed her hit single “All I Want for Christmas is You” while the legendary Aretha Franklin belted out “Joy to the World” and “The First Noel.” Although it was raining during her performance, the Queen received the royal treatment and had an Army Band Sergeant hold an umbrella over her for her performance.

President Obama also took time again to recognize the passing of anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela, who died Thursday evening after a variety of health issues. He was 95-years-old.

“This year, we give a special measure of gratitude for Nelson Mandela, a man who championed … generosity of spirit,” he said. “In his life, he blessed us with tremendous grace and unbelievable courage. And we are all privileged to live in a world touched by his goodness.”

Rounding out the evening’s entertainment was First Lady Michelle Obama, who read “The Night Before Christmas” along with the help of Sesame Street Muppet Abby Cadabby and Glee  star, Jane Lynch served as this year’s host.
