ESSENCE has just announced that music icon Prince will headline the 20th anniversary ESSENCE Music Festival in July 2014. Reportedly, the last time he appeared at the New Orleans festival was in 2004.

“Welcoming an artist as iconic as Prince back to the ESSENCE Festival for a 20th anniversary performance is incredibly exciting,” said ESSENCE Communications President, Michelle Ebanks.

In addition to performing, Prince is teaming up with ESSENCE for a special community initiative led by the Rebuild the Dream Innovation Fund, which encourages young people to harness the power of media and technology and channel their creativity into computer coding.

“The ESSENCE Festival is where we come together to connect to both our culture and our community, so we are pleased to support Prince and the Rebuild the Dream Innovation in advocating for our youth,” says Ebanks.

2014 is already shaping up to a monumental year for his royal badness as he will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of his classic film and movie soundtrack, Purple Rain.

Tickets and additional EMF performers will be announced soon!
