Rihanna has a lot to smile about these days! The Barbadian singer will be presented with the Icon Award during this year’s American Music Awards taking place next Sunday, November 24 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
According to THR, Rihanna is the first to be presented with the award that was created to “honor an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level,” says AMA producer Larry Klein.
“Rihanna’s iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and best-selling artists of all time.”
The singer just made history earlier this month becoming the first female ever to hold the record of scoring a number one single over seven consecutive years, joining such legendary acts as Elvis and The Beatles.
In addition to the award, Rihanna will perform (most likely her new single “What Now” ) along with Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry and TLC. This year’s show is being hosted by rapper Pitbull.
