The biggest night in Black music was held on Friday in Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena. I’m talking about none other than the 2013 Soul Train Awards.

Hosted by comedian Anthony Anderson, this year’s show paid a special tribute to 90’s music with a Lifetime Achievement Award going to R&B crooner Keith Sweat and the Legendary Award presented to songstress and former Soul Train Awards host, Dionne Warwick.

Top honors of the night went to rapper Kendrick Lamar, who won album of the year, Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” featuring Pharrell Williams and T.I. picked up song of the year, Tamar Braxton walked away with three awards and Love and Hip-Hop’s  K. Michelle snagged Best New Artist. Other winners of the night included “Electric Lady” Janelle Monae, Miguel and Ashanti for Independent R&B/Soul.

The show also included a string of memorable performances from Jennifer Hudson featuring Evelyn Champagne King, T.I. and Chaka Khan. “Mr. Biggs” Ronald Isley, (a slimmed down) Ruben Studdard, Chrisette Michelle and Gladys Knight paid tribute to Warwick while rap veterans Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh performed the hip-hop classic, “The Show.”
