“Golden” vocalist Jill Scott has been added to the cast of the new James Brown biopic, Get on Up.

According to the THR, Scott will play Brown’s wife and star in a role that was specifically written with her in mind. Joining Scott is legendary comedic actor, Dan Ackroyd, who will play Ben Bart, the president of Universal Attractions. Considered one of the largest and most reputable agencies in New York, UA represented Brown for over 40 years.

The two join an all-star cast that includes 42  actor Chadwick Boseman as The Godfather of Soul, Viola Davis as Brown’s mother, Octavia Spencer as Brown’s aunt, and True Blood  star  Nelsan Ellis as Bobby Byrd, James’ longtime friend and musical collaborator.

The film is being directed by The Help’s  Tate Taylor along with Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins. The film is also being produced through Mick Jagger’s production company, Jagged Films.

As previously reported, Get on Up is based on the incredible life story of the James Brown. It gives a fearless look inside the music, moves and moods of Brown, taking audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century.

Get on Up  opens in theaters Oct. 17, 2014.
