Last month, we confirmed that Denzel Washington and Diahann Carroll were headlining a revival of the Lorraine Hansberry classic, A Raisin in the Sun.  Washington will play Walter Lee Younger and Carroll will make her Broadway return as the family matriarch, Lena Younger.

Well now producers have announced that opening night is set for April 23, 2014 at the Barrymore Theatre. As previously reported, this is the same house where the original production of the play opened 55 years ago. The show is scheduled to run for 14 weeks with previews beginning March 8.

A Raisin in the Sun  also stars Sophie Okenedo as Walter Lee’s wife, Ruth and Anika Noni Rose as Walter Lee’s feisty younger sister, Beneatha. Most recently added to the show are Stephen Tyrone Williams as Joseph Asagai, Jason Dirden as George Murchison and Stephen McKinley Henderson as Bobo. Rounding out the cast is David Cromer who’ll play Karl Lindner and Bryce Clyde Jenkins, making his Broadway debut as son, Travis Younger.

This show is the second time around for Tony-nominated stage director Kenny Leon who revived the play in 2004 starring Phylicia Rashad and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. The 2014 show is being produced by Scott Rudin.

RC will keep you posted as more news continues to develop.
