Is Michael B. Jordan being considered for the ‘Independence Day’ Sequel?

In June, we reported that Will Smith was not returning to the big screen for the sequel to his blockbuster hit, Independence Day.  According to the film’s director, Roland Emmerich, Smith was too costly.

Well now, it is rumored that actor Michael B. Jordan is being eyed by movie execs for a major role in the film.  Apparently, the rave reviews Jordan received for Fruitvale Station  has them intrigued and they view him as “a budding movie star with mainstream appeal.”

The Wrap is also reporting that Jordan’s name has been thrown around quite a bit in creative meetings. Although the actor has not received an official offer, it is being said that he is high on the studio’s list of potential actors.  As previously reported, the sequel would focus on a “bit like the son’s take over,” which works well with the studio’s plan for additional installments of the film, that is now being called ID Forever Part I.

Michael B. Jordan’s career is definitely in full swing. His next film gig is the rom-com, That Awkward Moment,  followed by Pretenders.  He is also rumored to star in Creed  as the grandson of Apollo Creed, played in the early films by Carl Weathers. Reportedly, Sylvester Stallone is on board as the retired fighter turned-trainer and the film is being directed by Fruitvale’s  Ryan Coogler. Jordan is also rumored to play “The Human Torch” in a reboot of Fantastic Four.

RC will keep you posted on all of these projects as they continue to develop.
