And the nominees are…

The 2013 Soul Train Music Award nominations were announced earlier today and like this year’s BET awards, a hip-hop artist is once again leading the pack.

According to the Global Grind, Kendrick Lamar is smoking the competition with six nomination including Best New Artist and Song of the Year.  Chris Brown, Miguel, Justin Timberlake and Robin Thicke are all tied with five nominations each.  Holding it down for the ladies are Tamar Braxton and Janelle Monae, who also have five nominations and will battle it out for Best R&B/Soul Female and Video of the Year.

Newcomers, Luke James and Solange are up for The Centric Certified Award as well Jose James for Best Traditional Jazz Performance.

Fantasia will go toe-to-toe against Rihanna, Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, Kendrick Lamar and Miguel for Album of the Year.  While Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” will compete for Song of the Year.

This year’s hippest trip in America will take place at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas and will be hosted by comedic actor Anthony Anderson.  The show will air on CENTRIC and BET at 9PM EST/PST December 1.
