Indie Wire is reporting that Universal Pictures will release “Get on Up” the highly anticipated story about the Godfather of Soul, James Brown on October 17, 2014.

The exciting information comes just days after news that Oscar winner Octavia Spencer and Oscar nominated Viola Davis may be joining the cast. So far, the lead role is being played by newcomer Chadwick Boseman, who starred as Jackie Robinson in this spring’s 42.

The official film’s synopsis reads as follows:

Based on the incredible life story of the Godfather of Soul, the film will give a fearless look inside the music, moves and moods of Brown, taking audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century.

As previously reported the film is scheduled to start shooting this fall in Mississippi and is being directed by Tate Taylor.  It is also being produced by Brian Gazer and British rocker Mick Jagger for his company, Jagged Films.
