The AJC is reporting that Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Raymond has filed documents for partial custody of their two sons. The move comes after Monday’s pool incident in which Usher Raymond V nearly drowned in his great-aunt’s pool after getting his hand stuck in the drain.
Raymond apparently filed the paper on Tuesday and was granted an emergency hearing for Friday regarding custody of the two boys. She is accusing Usher of not providing adequate supervision of the children when he is away from home traveling for work.
“(Usher) leaves the minor children in the care of a third-party approximately 85% of his parenting time due to his work related schedule, yet refuses to allow the children to remain in my physical custody while he is out of town,” Raymond stated in the motion.
The children were left under the supervision of Usher’s great-aunt Rena Oden when the 5-year old child almost drowned. He was eventually pulled from the pool from contract worker Eugene Starchurski, who conducted CPR and revived the boy until the ambulance arrived. He was later taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.
Reportedly, Usher says that his son is doing much better and thanked all of those who helped in rescuing him according to PEOPLE:
“I would like to thank my Aunt Rena as well as the doctors and nurses who are working with us around the clock…I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son’s life…They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them…I am blessed and fortunate to say that my son Usher V is doing well and is recovering.”
Raymond is also seeking to have temporary decision making in regards to the boys education, healthcare, religion and extracurricular activities. Ironically, the incident occurred just a little more than a year after the death of Raymond’s 11-year-old son, Kile Glover, who was critically injured in a Lake Lanier boating accident.
