Issa Rae teaming up with HBO for new series

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Exhale  co-host, Issa Rae is currently in talks with HBO to develop a new comedy show with famed writer Larry Wilmore. Wilmore is best known as the creator of the Bernie Mac Show  and “Sr. Black Correspondent” on The Daily Show.

According to Deadline, the new project will focus on “awkward experiences and racy tribulations of a modern day African-American woman.” Sound familiar? Yes, the show is very similar to Rae’s already popular web series, The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl. Reportedly,  Rae is going write and possibly star in the series and Wilmore will executive produce the series.

This is another power move for the Forbes’ “30 under 30” star. She is already scripting a show with Shonda Rhimes for ABC entitled, I Hate LA Dudes.  Rae is also working with Tracey E. Edmonds on her new web series, The Choir,  which will debut on Edmonds’ new YouTube Channel, Alright TV.  Plus she is starring as Nina Simone in a new biopic about the life of Simone’s friend, writer and playwright Lorraine Hansberry. In addition to all of this, Rae has inked a book deal with Simon & Schuster to write a collection of personal essays that is due out next year.

Congratulations Issa Rae.  RC  is looking forward to all of your new adventures!
