If you were like me, you were probably glued to your television screen last night for the 2013 BET Awards. During the three and ½ hour telecast you may have noticed the network plugging a number of upcoming Black films that are scheduled to debut this fall and next spring. Two of the five promos were for Black Nativity and The Best Man Holiday.
According to the film’s IMDB page, Black Nativity stars Jennifer Hudson as a single mother struggling to make ends meet while raising her teenage son Langston, played by Jacob Latimore. She is forced to send Langston to his grandparents’ home in NYC for Christmas where Langston learns the true meaning of the holiday season. The new trailer reveals Hudson and Latimore singing a remixed version of “Silent Night.” Black Nativity also stars Forest Whitaker as Reverend Cornell, Angela Bassett as Aretha Cobbs, Tyrese Gibson, Luke James, Nas, and Mary J. Blige as an angel named, Platinum Fro.

Surprisingly, all of the film’s cast members except for Taye Diggs were on hand to present the award for Best Female Hip-Hop Award, which was taken by Nicki Minaj. The pint-sized rapper, who took her sweet time walking up to the stage, thanked the cast for inspiring her to become an actress during her acceptance speech.
As previously reported The Best Man Holiday shows the friends “reuniting over the holidays to discover just how easy it is for long-forgotten rivalries and romances to be ignited.” Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Morris Chestnut, Harold Perrineau, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Monica Calhoun, Melissa De Sousa and Regina Hall are all reprising their roles in the film.
