Lil Wayne just can’t seem to catch a break these days.
The New Orleans hip-hop star is at the center of controversy once again over something he claims was a mere accident. While recently filming the new video for his single, God Bless Amerika, Wayne appears to be disrespecting the American flag that was once hanging behind him but has now fallen to the ground. Instead of picking it up, Wayne continues to perform in front of the crowd and is even seen standing and stepping all over the American symbol.
According to TMZ, a witness captured the incident on video and the scene has upset a number of American patriots who view Wayne’s actions as disrespectful and un-American. Take a look for yourself in the video below:
height=350The United States Flag Code says the flag should never touch the ground and it should never be stepped on. While the code is federal law, there is no legal penalty for failure to comply.
Now Lil Wayne is calling the situation an accident and says the he never intentionally meant to step on the flag or be unpatriotic. He posted a response on Twitter first and then on Facebook where he wrote:
The clip that surfaced on the Internet was a camera trick clip that revealed behind the American Flag was the Hoods of America. In the final edit of the video you will see the flag fall to reveal whats behind it but will never see it on the ground. In most people eyes including my own who were raised in that environment, the Hood is the only America they know and the only America I knew growing up. I was fortunate from my God giving talents to escape the Hood and see the other beautiful places this country has to offer but most people who are born in that environment don’t get that chance. That’s their view of their America. That was Dwayne M Carter from Hollygrove New Orleans view of America. That’s who I’m speaking for in this song.”
Tell us your thoughts about the situation. Do you think Lil Wayne’s actions were intentional or simply an accident?
