Drake, 2 Chainz, A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar lead in nominations

Canadian-born rapper, Drake is probably waking up with a huge smile on his face this morning. The “Started from the Bottom” hip-hop star received a whopping 12 nominations for this year’s 2013 BET Awards including categories for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, Best Collaboration and Video of the Year.
Hip-Hop newbies Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz are not far behind; both are tied with 8 nominations including Video of the Year and Coca-Cola Viewer’s Choice Awards. A$AP Rocky follows with 5 nominations while Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake and the prince of R&B, Miguel are tied with four nods.
In the film categories, Django Unchained received three nods including Kerry Washington for Best Actress, Jamie Foxx for Best Actor and Best Movie. Oscar-nominated actress Quvenzhane Wallis is going up against Jacob Latimore, Jaden Smith and Keke Palmer in the Young Stars category. Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap and Sundance winner, Beasts of the Southern Wild “represented” for indie films in the Best Film category.
BET’s President of Music Programming and Specials, Stephen Hill says, “This year’s line-up of nominees and performers is reflective of the variety of fantastic talent that’s rocking the world right now. “We are especially excited as we move on up to the Nokia Theatre at LA Live. You know how we do. Big thangs shall indeed be poppin’. The BET Awards. Anything Can Happen…and most likely will.”
The show will air live on June 30 and his hosted by comedic actor Chris Tucker. Performances so far include Chris Brown and R. Kelly with the Cadillac Lifetime Achievement Award going to “Uncle” Charlie Wilson, for his four decades of musical achievement.
