According to Diddy, the “revolution will be televised” on his new cable network! The hip-hop mogul has released the first promotional video for his new cable network Revolt, which launches this summer. Like its predecessor BET, Revolt promises a unique mix of 24/7 music and news content. Here is the promotional statement about Revolt:
Every generation needs a new Revolution! The power they took from the people will return to the people. We are not machines. We do not look to the World for validation. We are the people that future generations will follow. The Revolution is Here! #REVOLT
Indie Wire reports that Revolt is part of new initiative started by Comcast that is supposed to increase minority ownership of cable TV channels. The ultimate plan is to launch as many as 10 new networks over the next 10 years, with a quarter of them owned by non-whites. So far, Comcast is already on board to carry the channel and Time Warner is said to be in talks to carry it as well.
Revolt joins an elite list of thriving African-American owned networks including Oprah Winfrey’s OWN, Magic Johnson’s Aspire, Bounce TV, TV One and The Africa Channel, which is supported by former NBA star Dikembe Mutombo.
