Looks like Mama Africa is ready to be on top!

According to Indie Wire, Tyra banks is taking her fashion competition series, American Next Top Model to the African continent.  Africa’s Next Top Model  is a new version of the show that will be produced and hosted by Nigerian beauty Oluchi Onweagba Orlandi. She will also serve as a mentor to the 12 models competing for the title.

“The African version of the franchise is long overdue and I expect the show to be a smashing success across the continent,” said Oluchi Orlandi.  Africa’s Next Top Model   is being produced by Gavin Wratten, the brains behind South Africa’s American Idol  and will start filming between Johannesburg and Cape Town in August.

Rihanna posted the above photo this weekend of her and design partner Adam Selman working on new looks for her River Island Collection. Apparently Billboard’s #1 pop singer, has already started on a second collection despite the lackluster reviews she received from her debut line. Hopefully her new Fox documentary, Rihanna 777  can provide the diva with some inspirations.

Here is what she had to say about the photo:

“Me and my better half @adamselman in design mode!! We went to #WERK on the upcoming #RihannaForRIVERISLAND Autumn and Winter collections! No really, we took it there! Like it’s not fair that you could get this kinda s–t at #RIHverIsland!”

Selita Ebanks

Former Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks is getting a little dose of reality…reality TV that is.  HB is reporting that Terrence J’s former boo thang, is getting her own reality-show based on her new life as a designer. Yes, Ms. Ebanks has a new fashion line and she is eager to share this adventure with the entire world. Good luck mama!

Legendary African-American fashion designer Stephen Burrows is revisiting iconic 70’s fashion in a new coffee table book titled, When Fashion Danced. According to ESSENCE, Burrows’ captures the energy and vibrancy of American runways during his rise to stardom in the 1970’s.  Burrows was one of five American designers that competed against the French in the infamous 1973 Battle of Versailles. The momentous fashion showdown that featured a number of African-American models, was fabulously told in last year’s award-winning docudrama Versailles ’73: American Runway Revolution.
