“I felt that maybe some of these organizations needed a face. If I cannot use my celebrity in any other way, I want it to mean something or else I’m just famous and can get into restaurants.”

Award-winning television, stage, and film star Jasmine Guy announced this week that she is teaming up with the “I Am Not Yours” child sex trafficking awareness campaign. The noted actress held a press conference in Atlanta on Thursday along with Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, I Am Not Yours  CEO/Co-founder Mona Stephens and Katie Jo Ballard, Director of the Governor’s Office of Children and Families.

Guy will serve as the national spokeswoman for the new non-profit that is dedicated to raising awareness and providing 50% of its T-shirt campaign proceeds to organizations that support the awareness and prevention of child sex trafficking. Guy told the media that she could no longer stand by and continue watching this growing epidemic.

“I said to Mona, I need a cause. I’ve been going to everybody’s fundraiser, everybody’s benefit and I’m passionate about our children and what’s happening to them. We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel. There are many organizations dedicated to helping these young girls and young boys. We’re just here to support.”

“I Am Not Yours” will focus on Atlanta-based organizations first such as Well Spring Living, INnocence Atlanta, Drop Dead Gorgeous and The Linx Inc., with the hopes of expanding its reach to other cities across the country.

According to the Georgia Governor’s Office for Children and Families, the FBI recently named Atlanta as one of 14 cities in the nation with the highest incidents of children used in prostitution.

Guy joins an elite list of other female celebrities who are also lending their voices to cause including Mira Sorvino, Angie Harmon, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Alicia Keys. Check out her newly release PSA for the campaign:
