Indie Wire is reporting that Investigative journalist Tamron Hall has been asked to host a new 13-espisode series for Discovery’s murder–and-suspense network, Investigation Discovery (ID). The show is titled Deadline: Crime with Tamron Hall.

The respected reporter will be joined by a team of correspondents of law enforcement pros to go beyond the headlines and find out not only what happened, but why it happened and how it was investigated.

The new series is produced by NBC News and debuts on ID in fall 2013.

Octavia Spencer

Academy-award winning actress Octavia Spencer is paying it forward by offering some lucky filmmaker the opportunity to share their short film and win a new camera, exposure and $1,000 cash.

Apparently, Spencer posted short film contest and rules on her Facebook fan page this weekend and encouraged struggling filmmakers to continue pursuing their dreams:

“I was struck this past week when a young filmmaker asked me how I coped when my dreams felt far from my grasp. My answer to her and all of you is I always feel mine are always within reach. What many people don’t know is that it takes an average of 15 years to become an overnight success. In that time you must create and continue to hone your skills. If you are a musician, write poetry and turn it into an amazing song. If you are a filmmaker write a short and shoot it. I’ve done it twice now. I know it’s not easy.”
