She’s already won an Oscar, a Grammy and a Golden Globe award. Now Jennifer Hudson has her eyes set on a Tony.  While working on the new NBC show “Smash,” the award-winning singer/actress discovered that she also wants to conquer the Broadway stage and sees her time on the show as preparation for it.

“Doing the show has helped me get my feet wet for Broadway,” Hudson said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.  “I like to take one step at a time and I feel like this was a huge leap, but a great start into walking into that world, which is something I definitely want to do one day.”

Hudson, who has a multi-episode arc as stage actress Veronica Moore, used to perform in shows on cruise ships before she was an Idol  contestant but has never done Broadway. “It’s not easy being on the stage, on Broadway. I take my hat off to those people.”

Hudson also says she enjoyed recording the original songs for Smash. “You’re constantly creating new things on so many different levels,” she said. “One minute you’re in the studio, the next second you’re doing choreography, the next second you’re acting. It’s a huge challenge, but I love it.”

Look for JHud on the “Smash” Season 2 premiere – Tuesday, February 5 at 9 p.m. EST
