The 4th Annual ESSENCE Black Women in Music event is taking place on February 6 in Los Angeles and this year’s honorees include Lianne La Havas and Solange Knowles.
Both women are being recognized for making “fresh statements” in entertainment and for personifying “what’s current, what’s new, and what’s next.” The event coincides with Grammy Week and is sponsored by Lincoln and My Black is Beautiful.
Solange Knowles is a singer, actress, DJ and noted fashionista
According to ESSENCE editor-in-chief Constance C.R. White, these ladies are not just changing the game, but also creating the rules. “What makes ESSENCE Black Women in Music so distinctive is that we are able to highlight the success of amazing African-American women in music, who are not only changing the game, but also creating the rules…This year, we look forward to recognizing the incredible gifts of Lianne La Havas and Solange Knowles, who are each making their own inimitable mark on the industry and around the world.”
This year’s event is hosted by Kelly Rowland and ESSENCE editor-at-large Emil Wilbekin and features performances from both La Havas and Knowles. Past honorees have included Janelle Monae and Mary J. Blige.
