Indie Wire is reporting that legendary jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis is in talks with “Robeson” film producers about scoring the music for the upcoming biopic about Paul Robeson.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center artistic director would be ideal for the job, having scored at least two films with acclaimed documentarian Ken Burns and the upcoming film Bolden, starring  Anthony Mackie as African American cornetist Buddy Bolden.

Robeson is slated to begin principal photography at the beginning of 2013 and could possibly star British actor David Harewood.  RC reported that the Homeland  actor was considering the lead role of the celebrated singer, actor, activist and Renaissance man.

So far Louis Gossett Jr. is attached to the film along with Greg Carter as producer, Richard Akel as executive producer with a script penned by Akel and Terry Bisson.  The film may also have a prominent director coming aboard as well.  So far, no names have been released.

RC can’t wait to see this one when it hits the big screen in the second half of 2013.
