“Who loves ya, baby?”

Those were the famous words of the late Telly Savalas who played the “straight, no chaser” New York City, detective Kojak.  Now, there is word that Universal Pictures is planning to remake the television classic as a major film starring Vin Diesel as the popular, bald-headed, and well dressed detective.

Telly Savalas as Kojak

According to Indie Wire, Universal has tapped the Skyfall writing team of Neal Purvis and Robert Wade to pen the script for a movie.  It is not certain how much re-imagining and contemporizing they will have to do for the big screen. However, considering the success of Skyfall, this film should do well at the box office.

The original ‘Kojak’ series ran on CBS from 1973 to 1978, earning Savalas an Emmy and two Golden Globe awards.  Savalas died in 1994.
