Oscar-nominated beauty Taraji P. Henson doesn’t hold her tongue when talking about the racial injustice she’s experienced as a black actress in Hollywood.
If you remember, Henson was involved in a highly publicized media storm with TV guide last September when they omitted the actress from a cover that featured her “Person of Interest” white leading male co-stars Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson. Henson was “hotter than fish grease” because she felted TV Guide was uninterested in her new role as the female lead of the show.
So Henson took to Facebook and Twitter saying, “WOW!!!! TV Guide is NOT including me on the cover with my cast members [sic]……..I am the female lead of a 3 member cast and I’m not included on the cover!!!!!! Do you see the $h_t I have to deal with in this business…..I cram to understand!!!!”
Now Henson says she is thankful to fans for standing with her and doesn’t regret her decision.
“I just stated a fact. TV Guide left the black woman out. The fans responded and the blogs picked it up. I had nothing to do with it going viral…That’s Hollywood,” Henson tells JET. “As a woman, especially a Black woman, you’ve got to keep fighting.”
The actress and single mother also dishes with JET about raising her college-bound son, her career and possibly starring in a sequel to the 2012 blockbuster, Think Like A Man.
Look for Taraji’s December 10 JET issue to hit newsstands tomorrow Monday, December 3.
You can also catch her on Person of Interest on Thursday nights at 9pm on CBS.
