First Lady Michelle Obama and former President Bill Clinton — who has already won two of these awards —landed Grammy nominations on Wednesday.
Both are up in the Best Spoken Word Album category for the audio version of their books American Grown (Obama) and Back To Work: Why We Need Smart Government For A Strong Economy (Clinton).
Obama is up for American Grown, her story about growing vegetables in the White House garden and getting healthy food to the table. Clinton’s effort is the recording of his book, Back to Work, which gives ideas on how to grow the economy and strengthen the federal government.
The Grammy for Spoken Word Album has been given out in one form or another going back to 1959. As a U.S. senator, Barack Obama took home the prize in 2006 for his recording of his memoir, Dreams from My Father. Clinton won the category in 2005 for his autobiography My Life.
Also, Hillary Rodham Clinton won the Best Spoken Word Album prize in 1997 for her recording of her book, It Takes a Village.
Michelle Obama and Bill Clinton are facing two top TV personalities in the Best Spoken Word Album field — Ellen DeGeneres (Seriously… I’m Kidding) and Rachel Maddow (Drift: The Unmooring Of American Military Power).
Kudos to Mrs. Obama & President Clinton!
