“Girl on Fire” singer Alicia Keys is red hot for the January 2013 cover of ESSENCE.
The Grammy award-winning artist is seen rocking her new bob cut with a strapless red peplum dress and gold accessories. Inside the magazine, Keys talks about her edgy new look, marriage, motherhood and learning to say “no.” “It’s okay if I can’t do every single thing. I finally understand that it doesn’t make me a lesser artist or human being.”
She also discusses the ordeal she and her family experienced during October’s super storm Sandy.
“After the third or fourth tuna fish sandwich, and after we learned we’d be without power for a week, I called my mother, who lives Uptown. She was okay and hadn’t lost any power, so we ended up going to her house. We were pretty lucky.”
The December issue of ESSENCE hits newsstands this Friday, December 7. Click here to see the behind-the-scenes-video for her photo shoot.
