It’s still hard to believe that Whitney Houston is gone. That voice! Her undeniable beauty and charismatic showmanship was truly second none.
So it’s no surprise that the crème de la crème of entertainment turned out to honor her life as part of the “We Will Always Love You Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston” this past Thursday night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
Everyone from Britney Spears to Taraji P. Henson to Halle Berry came out to show their love for the late diva. One of the evening’s highlights was Jennifer Hudson’s performance which was complete with an outfit and hairstyle reminiscent of Houston’s costumes from the 80’s. Hudson rocked the stage as she sang classic tunes from the Houston songbook including “How Will I Know,” “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” and “I Will Always Love You.”
“She has been a huge part of my life musically,” Hudson said. “She’s just been like this outline, this blueprint for myself.”
Other participants included Usher, Yolanda Adams, CeCe Winans, Stevie Wonder and LL Cool J who says that this year’s awards show was not enough to honor her rich musical legacy.
“The time that we spent remembering Whitney at the Grammys wasn’t really enough for her career,” he said. “Even though it was wonderful, and I got to say the prayer, and I got to address her death, her career was larger than just a few segments. You need a whole show to celebrate a career like Whitney Houston’s.”
The “We Will Always Love You: Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston” air on November 13 on CBS.
