The 7th Annual BET Hip-Hop Awards were held at the Atlanta Civic Center this past Saturday night. Although, there have been a number of reports about gunshots and backstage brawls between Rick Ross, Young Jeezy and 50Cent’s camps, BET is confirming that the show went on without a hitch.
So, here are a few of the evening’s highlights…
A tribute to the life and legacy of hip-hop mogul Chris Lightly, who passed away last month, was conducted by rap legend LL Cool J along with performances from Q-Tip, Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott and 50 Cent.
Other performers throughout the evening included B.O.B, Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, Diddy, 2 Chainz and Future.
Atlanta’s own, T.I. presenting the “I Am Hip-Hop Icon” award to the legendary Rakim while rising star, 2 Chainz walked away with the “People’s Choice Award” and Kendrick Lamar won the “Lyricist of the Year.”
The show will air on October 9 on BET.
