“The show was a homage to the African woman and their sensibility to dress up.” Philip Treacy
World-renowned milliner Philip Treacy didn’t just send a few models of color down the runway–he cast an all black model presentation. Black Voices reports a total of 25 black women strutted out in Treacy’s over-the-top Michael Jackson-themed show, which was opened by the equally outrageous Lady Gaga.
Treacy has designed hats for collections by Alexander McQueen, Karl Lagerfeld, Valentino, Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan. 36 of Treacy’s hats were worn at the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton on 29 April 2011; including the much-talked-about fascinator worn by Princess Beatrice of York.
The ‘hues of black’ were a welcomed surprise during Treacy’s first runway show in 13 years. Black models are cast in shows here & there, but seeing photos of an all-black cast of beauties made my heart smile! The models strolled out wearing some of Michael Jackson‘s most famous outfits on loan from one of the King of Pop’s costume designers.
