Mary J. Blige has been doing double duties these days. Not only is she ripping the stage every night during her Liberation Tour with D’Angelo.  She has also been prepping for the highly anticipated Lifetime movie, “Betty and Coretta.”

Blige sat down recently with Billboard to talk about her new film role as Betty Shabazz. The double biopic which also stars Angela Bassett as Coretta Scott King, chronicles the lives of the civil rights wives after the assassinations of their husbands, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X.

“Right now it’s a little sad but I’m enjoying it…it’s the death of Malcolm, the death of Martin and the women are trying to be strong and get through it.”

Blige also mentioned that filming began on Tuesday and that the ladies have been doing early screen tests with hair and make-up.

“I’ve really been enjoying the whole experience,” she said. “It’s a lot of long days and months and weeks and you know, I’m working my way through it.”

Check out her latest song which samples Sly and The Family Stone’s Everyday People. The song was co-produced by Jermaine Dupri and Bryan Michael Cox.
