Mariah Carey received top honors this past Friday evening at the BMI Urban Music Awards.

The 42-year old vocalist was recognized for her outstanding songwriting that has produced 18 No. 1 singles and sold more than 200 million albums. She was serenaded by former American Idol winner, Fantasia and R&B vocalists Joe and Eric Benet.  She was also honored by super music producer and personal friend, Jermaine Dupri.

“I’m so humbled by this moment because a lot of people still don’t know I write my own songs,” Carey said.

Other big winners that night included Nicki Minaj who received an award for her hit single, “Superbass” along with label mates, Lil Wayne and Drake who tied for songwriters of the year.
