The premiere date for Motown: The Musical  has been set for April 14, 2013 and the show has recently announced its casting for the lead roles of Motown founder Berry Gordy and Supremes singer Diana Ross.

According to THR, the role of Gordy will be played by Tony-nominated actor Brandon Victor Dixon, who has appeared in the musical version of The Color Purple  and The Scottsboro Boys.

Valisia LeKae

Diana Ross will be played by stage actress Valisia LeKae, who has appeared on Broadway in the Book of Mormon, Ragtime, 110 in the Shade  and The Threepenny Opera. She also appeared in a regional theater version of Dreamgirls  in the role of Deena Jones, a character loosely based on Ross.

Charles Randolph-Wright is directing the production which will open at New York’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
