Singing-sensation Jennifer Hudson along with her sister Julia Hudson handed out school supplies this past Tuesday to 5,000 low-income Chicago students as part of Julian King Hatch Day.
This is the second year that the Hudson sisters have given back to their community in honor of Julian’s memory. He along with their mother Darnell Donerson and Brother Jason Hudson were killed in 2008 by Julia’s estranged husband, William Balfour. Balfour was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences in May.
The sisters were overwhelmed with joy as the amount of supplies has doubled since last year.
“That’s the overwhelming part. Like, wow, to see how it’s snowballing…. And this is only the second year. That’s our dream, to see it grow and grow and grow and grow, because the more it grows the more people we can help,” said Hudson.
