FAME I’m gonna live forever

Literally, it seems that the popularity of the first TV series from the 1980’s is here to stay; the show ran for 6 seasons, won several awards and was even rebooted in 2009.  Now, Deadline reports MGM Television has teamed with American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance executive producer Nigel Lythgoe to reboot FAME, as scripted series (again).

According to the producers, the new project is a re-imagening of the original film and series that will strive to embody their spirit.  Set against the backdrop of today’s unprecedented access to the world of celebrity, it will expose the gritty struggle, heartache and pain endured in the search for stardom.

The original FAME followed the lives of the students and faculty at the New York City High School for the Performing Arts.

The 1980 Alan Parker MGM musical film already spawned a television series and spin-off, a stage musical, a reality TV competition series, and a 2009 film. So why isn’t MGM through with FAME yet?  Will we at least see a new Coco, Leroy and Lydia?  Only time will tell!
