The GMC Network, America’s favorite network for uplifting entertainment, hopes to score another hit with its latest film, “Somebody’s Child.”  Their last original movie, “Raising Izzie” set a ratings record when it aired last month and was the most watched program in African American households, according to GMC Vice-Chairman Brad Siegel.

The faith-based network hosted a star-studded Atlanta premiere for “Somebody’s Child” this past Thursday night with a number of the film’s stars walking the red carpet including Lynn Whitfield, Michael Jai White, Bryon Minns, Mikhail Avraham, Rachelle Neal and Kent Fields.

Somebody’s Child tells the story of Constance Rivers (Lynn Whitfield) and her son Douglas (Michael Jai White) who open their hearts to ex-convict, Benjamin Sparks (Byron Minns). While on the brink of losing her battle with kidney failure, Constance reveals to both men that they’re actually fraternal twin brothers who were separated at birth 37 years ago. The two must work together to form a bond and give their mother peace.

The film’s writer Siddeeqah Powell says that Somebody’s Child is a divinely-inspired story about forgiveness, faith, family, prayer and love that just had to be told.

“I actually saw an ad for the screenplay competition and I can’t really explain it other than I knew I just had to write it.  I prayed about what to write and it came to me not really in a voice but more of a pull.  I knew then that this is what I should write,” says Powell.  “I’ve always wanted to write something that would help heal people but also entertains.  After I decided that this is what I was going to write, I started getting confirmation after confirmation and as a result we now have Somebody’s Child.”

Other celebrities in attendance were football player turned actor Dorsey Levens, star of The Rickey Smiley Show Demetria McKinney, Basketball Wives LA Celebrity Life Coach Akema Johnson-Day, Bobbcat Films’ Roger Bobb and Nascar Driver Nicole Lyons, who will be the subject of Powell’s next film project slated to debut next year.
