S&A reports Anna Maria Horsford is joining the cast of the Fox Comedy, New Girl, playing the mother of Lamorne Morris’s character, Winston Bishop.

Horsford’s character’s name is Charmaine Bishop – a Chicagoan who raised all of her children to become professional basketball players – Horsford will be the second black actress to be cast in the series, following last week’s news that Niecy Nash, co-star of TV Land’s The Soul Man, had joined the series, playing a thieving hooker.

Zoey Deschanel stars in New Girl  as an offbeat young woman, who moves into an apartment loft with three single men, after a break-up; Lamorne Morris is one of the 3 single men.

New Girl  returns to Fox at 8/7c and 9/8c on Tuesday, September 25.
