JUST BECUZ…

R&B/Pop singer Brandy is giving you “tha bizness” for the cover art of her new album Two Eleven.

The face…done!   Her body…sickening!  That hair is layed (in my best Funky Dineva voice) like Zhang Ziyi from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

Couple all of this with her recent television appearances, smoking hot looks on the red carpet and dope new single with Chris Brown and Brandy may very well be on her way to making a strong comeback!

Look for Two Eleven in stores October 2.

Tyrese partners with Sprite for student filmmaking competition

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

R&B singer Tyrese has reunited with a familiar friend to help several youth go to the next level.

The Fast and Furious star is mentoring a group of student filmmakers and teaching them the dos and don’ts of the entertainment industry.  He has teamed up with Sprite as part of a film contest that offers the winner a big screen premiere.

“The gist of the stuff that I was telling them was, we are as dreamers, perception creators and the world is an empty canvas waiting on new thoughts to think,” Tyrese said in a recent interview.

Tyrese can relate to the students having gotten his first big break as a young model in Coca-Cola commercials.  He says the partnership with the brand is like coming home to family.

“Coca-Cola, Sprite that’s my original family, that’s the first thing that I ever did,” said Tyrese. “So I was just honored to do anything that they wanted me to do,” he added. “And this just so happened to fall up my alley.”

Will.i.am debuts new single from Mars

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Will.i.am’s new single is cutting edge and out of this world…literally!

The Black Eyed Peas ‘front man’ premiered his new song “Reach for the Stars” all the way from the planet Mars this past Tuesday courtesy of NASA. The track, which had been uploaded to the NASA rover Curiosity, was played and traveled some 700 million miles back to planet Earth.

The song is the first one ever to be broadcast from the planet and was heard by students who gathered at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to listen.

Will.i.am, a staunch supporter of science and mathematics education, had a chance to see the Curiosity rover land on Mars earlier this month.  He is now part of a special league of musicians whose music has been played in outer space including Pink Floyd and The Beatles.

Is a ‘Mahogany’ remake in the works?

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

For a few years now, it has been rumored that studios were looking at the possibility of remaking Berry Gordy’s “Mahogany.”  Unfortunately, there was no concrete evidence to support this claim…until now.

According to IndieWire.com, a press release about a remake of the film has been spotted on the website of former Motown executive Suzanne dePasse.  The release indicates that her production company dePasse-Jones Entertainment now owns the rights to the film and is also looking for a production team including a writer and/or writer director.

“Mahogany” tells the story of Tracy Chambers (Diana Ross), an aspiring Chicago fashion designer who must choose between the man she loves (Billy Dee Williams) and the career she desires.

The film was a hit at the time of its release in 1975.  However, it failed to generate the same commercial success at the box office as the previous Motown film Lady Sings the Blues.  Although it featured the same great chemistry between Ross and Williams, it was the film’s theme song, “Do You Know Where You’re Going To” that was the winner.  It was nominated for the Best Original Song Academy Award and remains one of Ross’ most endearing songs.

Over time the film has gained a huge cult following among fashion models, designers, actresses and entertainers.  Everyone from Beyoncé to Thierry Mugler credit the film as inspiration for their careers and that is what dePasse and her team are hoping to re-create with this remake.

“We are excited to bring a remake of this classic film to a whole new audience and are grateful to Mr. Gordy for his trust” said Madison Jones. “There are so few female driven stories for African American actors and this is great material, with issues that are as relevant today as they were in the 70’s”, said Suzanne de Passe. “The heart of Mahogany is a story about making your dreams come true, and that is as relevant and urgent today as ever. And with platforms such Project Runway, BET, MTV, VH1 and the like, the capacity to deliver and expand the film’s audience has never been stronger”, said Ileen Maisel and Mark Ordesky [Amber Entertainment].

So where does this leave us?  Well, at least we know that the film is being developed for a remake.  The next big question is when and most importantly who will star in it.

Tell us your thoughts on remaking Mahogany.  Who would you like to see cast in the lead role?

Guess who may be joining Love and Hip Hop Atlanta?

Rumor has it that Love and Hip Hop Atlanta  is definitely going to have a second season and there is already buzz about a new addition to the cast.

Sources close to RC are saying that Keyshia Cole’s sister, Neffe is coming to season two.  It’s not quite clear where she fits into all of the chaos and confusion.  However, adding Neffe to the cast would definitely make next season very interesting.

Check out these photos of her spotted with Lil Scrappy, Mama Dee and her sister Elite after a screening party of the reunion show this past Monday night in the Buckhead-Atlanta clothing store, Studio Couture.  Also pictured is RHOA Kandi Burruss.

Eddie Murphy turning his classic ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ into TV show?

Posted by| Cyrena Rose

The Shield creator Shawn Ryan is leading the charge to resurrect Axel Foley…

Last November, Eddie Murphy told Rolling Stone that he was interested in turning his classic 1984 action comedy Beverly Hills Cop into a TV show.

“What I’m trying to do with Beverly Hills Cop now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit.  I’d do the pilot, show up here and there.”

Vulture exclusively reports that the idea is now a reality and Eddie Murphy,  Shawn Ryan and Sony Pictures Television have partnered on a small screen adaptation of the massively successful film franchise, and that broadcast networks began hearing their pitch on the spin-off yesterday afternoon.

The series is reportedly designed to be “a buddy cop show,” that will be an hourlong crime procedural with strong comedic elements and Murphy would appear in the pilot and possibly a few special episodes throughout the first season.  It would be a series “starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit.”

For now, all that is known for sure is the show is being shopped around and Murphy will executive produce the series; when the pilot is greenlighted RC will give an update.

Would you watch Beverly Hills Cop television series?

‘FAME’ getting rebooted as new scripted series…

Posted by | Cyrena Rose

FAME I’m gonna live forever

Literally, it seems that the popularity of the first TV series from the 1980’s is here to stay; the show ran for 6 seasons, won several awards and was even rebooted in 2009.  Now, Deadline reports MGM Television has teamed with American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance executive producer Nigel Lythgoe to reboot FAME, as scripted series (again).

According to the producers, the new project is a re-imagening of the original film and series that will strive to embody their spirit.  Set against the backdrop of today’s unprecedented access to the world of celebrity, it will expose the gritty struggle, heartache and pain endured in the search for stardom.

The original FAME followed the lives of the students and faculty at the New York City High School for the Performing Arts.

The 1980 Alan Parker MGM musical film already spawned a television series and spin-off, a stage musical, a reality TV competition series, and a 2009 film. So why isn’t MGM through with FAME yet?  Will we at least see a new Coco, Leroy and Lydia?  Only time will tell!

Beyoncé to perform at ‘Made In America’ festival Labor Day weekend?

Posted by | Cyrena Rose

Reports are coming in that Beyoncé will hit the stage in ‘surprise’ performance at her husband’s Made In America festival September 1st and 2nd in Philadelphia’s Fairmont Park.

Philadelphia is getting ready to host an estimated 100,000 fans who will be attending Jay-ZMade In America music festival over Labor Day weekend.  However, that number could get even bigger when word gets out that Beyoncé is planning to perform as well.

Sources say, “Beyonce will hit the stage in a surprise performance at her hubby’s festival next weekend in [Pennsylvania].  The performance is top secret but it will be filmed for Jay’s documentary about the event.  It’s going to be epic.”

Stage construction has already begun on the tree-lined boulevard in the heart of downtown Philly that will host the event where Jay-Z, Skrillex, Drake, Afrojack, Chris Cornell, Run-DMC and hometown lady Jill Scott are all confirmed to perform.

If Beyoncé’s performance was meant to be a secret; the cat is out-the-bag!  If the news is in fact a rumor, the festival will still be epic!

FYI, Brian Grazer and Ron Howard will be making a movie about the 2-day festival and Steve Stoute and Jay-Z himself have signed on as producers.  So, if you aren’t able to make it to Philly stay-tuned for the movie.
