Ice Cube’s ‘Ride Along’ takes a different route w/Kevin Hart!

Ride Along has a new cast member, director, producer and home!  Let me explain:  three years ago this feature film was set up at Warner Bros. and Ice Cube was slated to star in the film as a rogue cop who tries to break off his sister’s engagement to a white psychiatrist, by inviting him on a ride-along.

Greg Coolidge initially penned the project and it went through several re-writes until it fell in the hands of writer Jason Mantzoukas; the film will get another rewrite from the scribe team of Matt Manfredi & Phil Hay.

Now, Deadline reports, Universal Pictures has acquired Ride Along out of turnaround from New Line (a subsidiary of Warner Bros) and the studio has set a late October production start with Kevin Hart and Ice Cube starring, and Tim Story (Barbershop, Taxi, Think Like A Man) directing.

Producer Will Packer (Think Like A Man) will co-produce the project via his Rainforest Films banner with Ice Cube’s Cube Vision, and Matt Alvarez’s LBI Entertainment.

Hart will play a second-grade teacher who is ready to get married, but first he must survive a Training Day-like ride-along experience with his fiancée’s tough cop brother (still played by Cube), who doesn’t want the marriage to happen and tries to scare off the suitor.

Talk about taking a detour…regardless, I am looking forward to seeing this film.  With Ice Cube and Kevin Hart in the forefront and Will Packer and Tim Story behind the scenes; this flick will be a hit!
