Ice Cube shares his views on Reality TV, Celebrity Beefs, Gay Marriage and more!

Very few rap artists have had as versatile of a career as Ice Cube. From rapping on stage to acting and directing behind the camera, Cube embodies what it truly means to be a hip hop star. That is why it was only natural for him to join Coors Light Search for the Coldest MC in Atlanta this past week.

Cube, who was joined by ATL’s own DJ Drama, hosted and judged the competition between the semi-finalists along with special performances from T.I., Lil Scrappy and 2 Chainz.

But before the evening kicked off, Cube talked to media about a number of issues ranging from his views of reality television to hip hop’s stance on gay marriage.  Here are a few excerpts from that interview…

On reality television…

The shows are there to entertain. We get the word reality kind of twisted in what we want to see. The shows are scripted. The situations are put together. They are looking for conflict. They want to edit the conflict—that is the show. Without the conflict, nobody is watching. It’s a shame that’s kind of the nature of the beast.

On Celebrity Beefs…

It’s kind of funny. I have seen that in all different cases. It’s sad and funny at the same time. But it is what it is, you know? People are people. Just cause we do music don’t make us different than anybody else that’s trippin. Stuff happens. One thing I know is, lawsuits will make you wanna act right!

On his involvement with Straight Outta Compton  film…

I’m full in it…I’m producing the movie along with a few other people…We’re on our third draft, getting the script together. Once we get that script tight, it’s about a lot of pre-production for the movie. It’s a period movie even though it’s just the 80’s…We’re starting to cast the movie and I want my son to play me. I think he can do it.

On gay marriage…

That whole issue [gay marriage] to me is a discrimination issue. And to be black you can’t really be down for no discrimination nowhere!  Because that’s what got us in the mess were in right now. I ain’t down for discrimination.
