Tyra Banks Opens an Empowerment Center for Girls

It’s no secret that ex-supermodel Tyra Banks has a heart for young people, particularly teenage girls.  Her passion for working with and impacting the lives of young women gave birth to TZone in 1999; a summer camp whose goal is to build self-esteem, confidence, create leaders and teach the importance of determination.  Now Banks has decided to revive the program by building a place to house the Lower Eastside Girls Club.

In a conversation with the New York Times Banks said, “My dream was to have a place that was brick and mortar, where they could build on that experience all the time.  The real impact is to have consistency, as opposed to an excursion,” she added.

She has been clear that she doesn’t want to be known solely as the home’s celebrity benefactor but instead she wants to build real relationships with each young lady.  In order to make this happen her office will be located in the home.  Banks mentions, “I can do normal work here and they can see me, to know that this is what a business is. It’s not about living on a red carpet. I am a businesswoman who goes to work every single day.”

Beautiful, intelligent and a desire to pay it forward; is there anything that Tyra Banks can’t do?
