Fast Company magazine has released its list of 60 amazing women and their extraordinary contributions for its July/August issue. Among those listed are Alicia Keys, Oprah Winfrey, Laila Ali and Liya Kebede.
Keys was recognized for her tireless activism and support of the Keep A Child Alive Foundation, an organization she co-created after a tour through AIDS-stricken South African Villages in 2002. Here is what the Grammy winning vocalist had to say about her support:
“I started meeting these kids who had been so isolated and alone, and not much younger than me,” said Alicia, who is now 31 but was only 21 when she began her work. “It was so deep to me. [AIDS activist] Leigh [Blake] had a very clear vision, that if we could get these kids the right anti-retroviral medication, we could allow them to lead a full life. I dedicated myself to that vision right then.”
Boxing Diva Laila Ali was recognized for her support of Olympic hopefuls through her Women’s Sport Foundation, while both Kebede and Winfrey were honored for their support of women and youth.
Congratulations Ladies for all that you do!
