‘The Sound of Young America’ is coming to Broadway in 2013!

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Motown: The Musical  is a bio-show inspired by the life of music legend Berry Gordy and will feature hits from Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and more.  Gordy has written the musical and the show is being directed by Charles Randolph-Wright.

The musical’s story line is based upon Gordy’s life from 1959 when he became a song writer in Detroit to the present.  Armed with incredible ambition Gordy founded Tamla Records with an $800 loan from his family. That company’s success influenced the music industry and crossed over to mainstream success, when our country was still segregated.  Gordy had this to say about his musical, “Broadway is the pinnacle of live theater and provides a challenging and exciting opportunity to tell my story and share the magic of Motown.”

Motown has earned 180 number one singles around the globe.
