Just when you thought there was a resurgence of female MCs, another one bites the dust!  Newcomer Azealia Banks is calling it quits and is leaving hip hop for good and wishes to now be referred to as a “vocalist.”

Is this a publicity stunt or is she for real?

According to BET.com, the Harlem rapper who had quite an exciting start has not only parted ways with her manager Troy Carter, but she is also leaving hip hop and Twitter.  Here is what she had to say about her decision to leave…

“no longer wishing to be a rapper. i never was…. and as soon as i started paying attention to bulls–t urban media, i started getting myself in trouble,” Banks wrote, according to HipHopDX’s account of the deleted tweets. “From now on i’m a vocalist, and will not be associating myself with the “rap game”… or whatever the f–k that means.”

Not one to bite her tongue, Banks has had her share of feuds with some of rap’s elite including T.I. and Lil Kim. But the 21-year old is ready to put all of that drama behind her now and move into other areas of music.  Fans can now follow her via Tumblr, a social medium Banks says is not as ‘accessible’ as Twitter.

“no more twitter for me… it makes me entirely too accessible. Catch me on tumblr… it’ll be more interesting,” she wrote.

Banks recently released her debut EP 1991 and is working on her album Broke with Expensive Taste due in stores later on this year.

Tell us what you think about this abrupt decision to leave hip hop? Good move or will she be back?  Tell us your thoughts?
