RZA’s feature film debut, ‘The Man with the Iron Fists’

Blaxploitation cinema meets Kung-Fu movies seems to be the thread of rapper-turned-actor-turned-director RZA‘s feature film directorial debut.  The Man with the Iron Fists is his current project that is said to have wrapped shooting over a year ago; however, the rapper/actor/director is currently putting the soundtrack together.

Little is known about the details of this film, some of the cast members have given evasive interviews and no official synopsis has been released.  However, because of the talent surrounding the project anticipation is increasing and excitement is brewing!

So, what is known about this film?…

  • RZA is the director and the star of the film
  • Russell Crowe, Pam Grier, Lucy Liu and others are cast members
  • Quentin Tarantino and Eli Roth are producers on this $20 million project
  • The film is slated for an October release date
  • RZA is putting the soundtrack together (no brainer, he’s a genius in that area)
  • RZA & Eli Roth wrote the screenplay
  • The film was shot in China
  • Pam Grier plays RZA’s mother
  • Gordon Liu is in the film (honored in the Kung-Fu genre)
  • Russell Crow plays a character named Jacknife
  • Universal Studios is handling the film
  • Jon T. Ben is in the movie (from Bruce Lee’s Return of the Dragon)

IMDB synopsis gives little to go on:  In feudal China, a blacksmith who makes weapons for a small village is put in the position where he must defend himself and his fellow villagers.

Hopefully there will be a movie trailer released soon along with promo pictures, an official synopsis and a solid release date.  Until then, we curiously wait.

What are your thoughts?
