Controversy over MJB singing at the Kentucky Derby?

It was announced last month that Grammy winner Mary J. Blige is expected to sing the National Anthem at this year’s Kentucky Derby…yeah Mary!  However, according to Wendy Williams, Kentucky natives don’t want Mary to put ‘that stank on it!’  The talk show host shared this tid-bit on her syndicated show this morning.

A statement from Churchill Downs says Blige will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Louihsville track around 5:10 p.m. on May 5, shortly before the running of the 138th Kentucky Derby.

WHAS 11 in Kentucky claims they’ve received dozens of calls and emails fearing Mary J. Blige might jazz up The National Anthem too much.  Regardless of the complaints the Director of Communications and Media Services at Churchill Downs blew them off  in a statement to the media,

“We’ve hosted the Derby for 137 years, we’re quick to find out that you can’t please everybody all the time but Mary J. Blige is a very exciting and talented individual that we can’t wait to host on Derby day.”

Exactly!…Mary is a professional stank or no stank; she is the ‘Queen of Hip-Hop Soul and will give a great performance!
